Warehouse Depth of Field Demo Scene

You can use this simple 3d Studio Max scene to practice your mental ray rendering with depth of field. There are numbers placed around the scene at escalating distances from the camera. There are numbers at 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 feet from the camera.  Try modifying the camera’s f-stop value and target distance to see what kind of effect the blurring has on the different numbers.  The checker pattern on the back wall is exactly 1-foot by 1-foot squares.

This scene was used in my mental ray depth of field quality tutorial.

Enjoy!

“There are many rendered portraits in a lot of galleries. I was always impressed by the high quality of the MentalRay FastSkin shader and how easy it was to set it up once you understood the basic concept of how skin works. But as I “only” have Cinema 4D, MentalRay is not an option for me. But isn’t it possible to render realistic skin in Cinema 4D? I wanted to find out with this project.”

Making of the Mother Love

“This image is created for the CGArena challenge themed “Beautiful” and I won the second prize for this image. Thanks for all the sponsors and CGArena. The concept was to show a rough stone statue in a cold autumn environment. The statue represents a mother breast feeding and where the baby’s mouth touches the breast, the stone becomes warm flesh, showing love and humanity. I had my first baby 18 months ago and for me the image of his mother breast feeding was of an absolute beauty! I’m using Lightwave and Modo for all my modeling.”

Making of La Espera

“I am proudly present this making to all the great artists. La espera was created entirely in Lightwave. At first we used the 9.3 version which had already incorporated significant advances in fast skin y global light, then look at version 9.6 I could see that the improvements were even more notable, therefore rendering was done in this latest version. In the following pictures you can see the modeling process.”
