“Hi. My name is Nicolas Collings. I was born in 1983 and I currently live in Belgium. I made this model for the challenge “Take2: Celebrity Head Sculpt” at subdivisionmodeling.com. This was my first real attempt at doing a digital double so I learnt a lot doing this challenge. I completed this piece in one week, working approximately 2 hours every evening after working-days. The week-end before I started this model, I had watched “Man on Fire”, one of my favourite movies. Denzel Washington is just amazing in it. That’s why I decided to choose him as my celebrity head.”

“At the age of 17, Ingrid Bergman auditioned for and was accepted to the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. During her first summer break, she was hired at a Swedish film studio, which consequently led to her leaving the Royal Dramatic Theater to work in films full time, after having attended for only one year. At the age of 21, she married a dentist, Petter Lindstr’m (who would later become a neurosurgeon). In 1938, she gave birth to a daughter.”

“Ever since I’ve known about the character, I’ve always wanted to paint the Pierrot. There’s something really vulnerable and tragic about him that makes him so endearing – always a good subject for a painting!”

“Hello Readers, I use a blue pencil to sketch out the basic shapes of the image. At this stage, I do not worry about how perfect the drawing is. I just want to quickly sketch out the subject with a light touch. The last thing I do is block in the areas of shadow. This step in the process shouldn’t take more than 5-10 minutes. If it does, it it possible that you are trying to finish the painting before you even begin. Keep your stokes fluid and free. You can always paint over any stray lines later.”

“In this tutorial, I will go about how I painted a Master Copy of Gerome Jean Leon’s “Black Bashi-Bazouk”. As an artist, I feel like I can learn a lot by doing studies of the works of Old Masters, especially in terms of color. It’s important to note that when you’re doing Master studies, you shouldn’t just mindlessly copy a painting; Put thought into what you’re doing – ask yourself why did this artist choose this color as opposed to another, and so forth.”
